In environments where fire, smoke and hazardous airborne contaminants may occur, selecting appropriate emergency escape equipment is important. The Dräger PARAT 5500 series is designed for emergency evacuation from fire-related hazards and uses a CO P2 filter to help protect against carbon monoxide, particulates and certain other fire-related contaminants. Filter part number R59475 is listed for the PARAT 5520 and PARAT 5530 models.

This product can be considered for compatible escape equipment used in industrial facilities, utility installations, service buildings and other locations with emergency evacuation plans and respiratory protection requirements. Selection of equipment should follow a hazard assessment, actual environmental conditions and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Compatible Models and Selection Considerations

Dräger lists the PARAT 5520 with Soft Pack packaging and the PARAT 5530 with a Hard Case. Both use filter set R59475. In contrast, the PARAT 5510 uses a different filter set, part number R59474. Check the model marked on the equipment against the filter part number before ordering.

Standards, Duration of Use and Limitations

According to Dräger’s brochure, the complete PARAT 5500 fire escape hood is approved to EN 403:2004 and has also been tested for H₂S under the conditions described in DIN 58647-7. The stated minimum 15-minute period of use applies to the complete escape hood under defined test conditions. This is not an independent certification or a guaranteed standalone protection duration for the filter. Actual protection depends on the environment and the limitations of the full equipment.

Inspection, Maintenance and Filter Replacement

Dräger states that the total service life of compatible PARAT escape hoods can reach 16 years if the filter is replaced after 8 years. Before use, check the filter expiration date, packaging and seal condition, model compatibility, and the manufacturer’s current instructions. Do not install damaged, expired or incompatible filters.
