Presentation at the 5th Biennial Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Conference OGPC 2024

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the Catalyst Panel of the 5th Biennial Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Conference at the Persian Gulf University, Bushehr, and giving a presentation on the technology transfer process for the production of process catalysts. In addition, three innovative technologies from Artin Azma Company, located in the Bushehr Special Economic Zone, were unveiled, and in the next part, a short presentation was made of the successful Shiraz Oil Refining Isomerization Unit project, which used the new generation of isomerization catalysts with zirconia sulfate technology for the first time in the country.

1. IVKAZ demercaptan catalysts:

This technology, which has successfully completed the stages of pre-production, laboratory tests, field tests and pilot tests of the research institute, is now in the final commercialization stage and has very successful references in LPG purification units and removal Mercaptan from gas condensates in almost all South Pars gas refineries, oil refineries in the country such as Persian Gulf Star Refinery, Bandar Abbas Oil Refinery, Shazand Arak Oil Refinery and He has left several references in the small and medium refineries of the country.

2. Desulfurization technology of heavy oil derivatives using electromagnetic method:

This technology, which has now passed its initial laboratory tests and is in the stage of construction on a semi-industrial scale, can be briefly explained as follows: sulfur compounds in fuel oil and fuel oil are converted to sulfones by oxidation, and then by adding iron nanoparticles and creating a magnetic field, cracking occurs, and sulfur compounds are separated from fuel oil and converted into two independent phases after passing through centrifuges. With this method, it is expected that the sulfur percentage can be reduced from 3.5% to less than half a percent.

Magnetic desulfurization: This innovative approach significantly reduces the sulfur content in heavy oil cuts such as liquid fuel from 3.5% to less than 0.5%.

3. Production of process catalysts jointly with the Russian licensor and in the form of Almas Catalyst Company:

In cooperation with the licensor Antarx Company, Almas Catalyst Company will jointly produce catalysts used in isomerization, hydrotreating, reforming and Claus/Super Claus processes on an industrial scale with a capacity of 60 tons per month. Regarding this technology transfer, preliminary analyses, pilot tests and laboratory scale tests have all been completed.

Following the introduction of the mentioned technologies, a few slides were presented regarding Artin Azma Company's latest experience in supplying, implementing, and launching the isomerization unit of Shiraz Oil Refining with actual operational data (which were not confidential). This project, which was implemented in close cooperation with Artin Azma Company and the manufacturer and licensor Antarex Company with Jundishapur Company in Shiraz Oil Refining, was a clear example of a successful collaboration with a very distinctive output, resulting in the production of gasoline with a high octane number and low emissions in accordance with the Euro 5 standard.
